After the sheep, the journey continues with the fleece

―Each fleece presents its own possibilities

True to the individuality of our sheep, the fleeces they grow are all in their own way unique. Several fleeces share characteristics in crimp, length, softness and color and can be pooled to create a larger uniform fiber groups, but the number of fiber pools still remains rather large compared to most flocks. Every year there are some fleeces that I find so lovely that they are kept separate while I contemplate the best use for the fiber or make it available for sale to another fiber enthusiast to enjoy.

Every fiber has a use

Our sheep grow a wide range of fiber types, from long, lustrous medium fiber with a slight wave, medium/fine fiber with strong bold crimp and a very softy handle to fine very soft fiber with even tight crimp. We use our fiber to create roving, yarn, felt, and stuffing. Nothing needs to go to waste.

You can find washed fiber from our flock at the Brooktondale Farmer’s Market Saturday’s from 10 to 1 all summer or at LocalFiber-sponsored events throughout the year.
