Felting is an adventure in creativity. If you can think it, you can probably felt it.

My felting adventures have just begun and remain at the basic skills level. I have to say that it is a very lovely way to use fiber, especially if you have a lot of fiber to use! I have so many fiber types to choose from, it makes felting a continuous experiment. My purpose in making felted objects is to create items that are entirely functional and will add joy and comfort to our every day routines.

I have recently started to make felted slippers. These are made especially with the hand spinner in mind. I spin in socks and in the winter, my feet can get cold. The felted slippers are basically mittens for your feet. They are soft and do not interfere with your connection to the treadle on the wheel, while keeping your feet toasty warm. These slippers would work well as binge watching slippers or for those folks required to sit at a desk for extended periods of time. These slippers are not recommended for extended walking around as they have no soles and may slip on polished surfaces, but they are lovely as defensive weapons for cold feet when you are sitting.

I am also creating a series of felted sheets, using combinations of fibers that result in felt with tremendous volume, resilience and warmth. These felt sheet/mats can be used as chair cozies, bed warmers, bath mats, yoga mats, crib warmers, nap pads, pet beds, and saddle blankets. I use one on my favorite chair and am enveloped in radiant warmth the moment I sit down. There is no lag time between sitting and being hugged with warmth as the wool immediately holds and reflects my body heat. These thick and resilient wool felt sheets have natural edges-as created in the felting process.

My newest adventure in felting is making rugs. These have a thick wool felt backing and are layered with wool locks from my flock of sheep. This creates a thick, but lightweight rug that has a ton of texture and depth, is rugged and fully machine washable. Even the largest rug size I create (about 4’6” by 7-8’) can be washed using the hand wash or delicates cycle on most front loading machines (I do not recommend using a top loading washer to wash the rugs).
